Dong Fang Mei Ren - Oriental Beauty Oolong

This exceptional oolong, known in Taiwan as Bai Hao, Pom Feng, or Oriental Beauty, owes its unique and unmistakable flavour to small green cicadas (Empoasca onukii), which nibble on the tea leaves of the tea bushes.

The plants respond to this specific insect by releasing certain enzymes and sending sugars to the leaves to aid their regeneration. Oxidation of the nibbled leaves begins while they are still on the bushes, giving the tea its unparalleled character.

The leaves of this remarkable tea captivate with their array of colours—white, green, yellow, brown, and red—as well as their sweet, honey-must-like notes, complemented by hints of sweet citrus.

The infusion, with its beautiful amber hue, delivers a complex flavour experience, featuring a full-bodied, fruity-floral aroma and a delightful sweet aftertaste.
