Yunnan Da Ye is the basic and most common Chinese red tea. It is processed from Yunnan Da Ye cultivar, a large leaf variant of Yunnan Tea plant.

The higher the percentage of gold top buds is, the higher the Tea is ranked. Smokiness, on the other hand, is less welcome – it means higher temperature was used for drying and that means faster production of Tea.

The colour of the infusion goes from orange-red to light brown. The brewed leaves have a delicate woody aroma with hints of bitter cocoa.

The tea carries a fragrance reminiscent of dried plums, with a full and rounded flavour. When prepared correctly, it is not bitter at all, and its aftertaste is distinctly sweet, even honey-like.

Chinese red teas have a unique character and, according to traditional Chinese medicine, they warm the internal organs, that’s why they are ideal for the winter season.
